I upgraded to Vista Ultimate from Windows XP SP2, but (!VER) still detects me as running XP SP2.

Windows Vista Ultimate
Windows Live Messenger 8.01.0178
Messenger Plus! Live 4.20.0.262

Hi, I got the same bug since version 4.79, 4.79b and 4.80 with wlm 2009

I got vista and never had an another OS on this laptop and it say

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600)
Windows Live Messenger 14.0.1202
Messenger Plus! Live 4.80.0.356

Or my laptop had XP and they updated it to vista before they sell it :o ^o)

Ok i fixed it after uninstall and reinstall A-patch :)

Very strange though that A-patch would influence the way the Windows APIs, used by Plus!, work to determine the OS version.

I think I saw somewhere that some patches did change the compatibility version of Messenger's exe to do something... I can't remember what exactly though.

But would that influence the APIs you use to determine the version of Windows? Aren't those (shouldn't those) be independant of the program you're running? How do you determine Windows' version :p? /me is lost...
