DVD burner and slow burnign speed by joemailey on 04-02-2007 at 07:52 PM

Ok

A friend of mine has been burning lot of dvd's etc.(well over 1000's disks burned in prob under 6-8months)

His dvd burning speed has dropped from usual 4mins-20mins burning time to practically 1hr.

No viruses
No spyware
Change and tried different disks.
Uninstalled and reinstalled burning software.

Can't think of anything else to try, Almost certain its the drive as you can hear it rev up as it trys to burn. as if its struggling to right to he disks.

What do you guys think?

If it was me i'd just buy another drive but i don't like telling friends to buy new one incase they waste there money.

This is just an idea but the read/write of the laser could be getting slower.

RE: DVD burner and slow burnign speed by joemailey on 04-02-2007 at 07:56 PM

Ask him to check/reset his DMA.

linx05, that won't work if he has a SATA optical drive.. Right? Just asking, it seems like a nice solution for IDE drives..

Uh, get some software (like Ashampoo) and then put the blank DVD in your DVDRW drive and burn? o.O

Are they commercial DVDs? If yes, then no I won't tell you.

Why?

Its like nooooooooooo your not allowed to know how to copy commercial dvds.

Do you buy all yours DVDs?
Go to cinema/movies to watch all your movies?
Never watched a video on youtube or other media sites?
Do you buy all your music?(lets not for get the mp3's a friend sends from time to time over messenger to let you listen to his fav song ;) )

How about software? you work with any images using photoshop or anything? if you use photoshop its dear piece software not many people buy it.

RE: DVD burner and slow burnign speed by linx05 on 04-03-2007 at 09:17 AM

I buy all my DVDs and then I back them up. That is called fair use. Try asking how to copy rented movies at any forum and you will recieve a quick kick up the arse.

I don't want to help someone copy a DVD they do not have for the sake of this forum. If you want to get into a legal debate then spare me, you won't get anywhere.

RE: DVD burner and slow burnign speed by joemailey on 04-03-2007 at 09:25 AM

Never mentioned you had to tell him on the forum.
i never mentioned a legal debate.
i just pointed out stuff everyone does.

You don't have to tell anyone how to do any thing n the forum all you have to do is point them in the correct direction.

also he never mentioned rented movies either.

Just annoying when people say if its commercial dvds then i won't tell you. Him backing up DVDs he has at his parents house is just same as you backing up your own personal collection as long as you own the original  dvd doesn't matter were the copy is as long as you have the copy and the original. which you don't let anyone barrow or touch of course ;)

Here you'll find some info/guides on backing up DVDs

actually you are allowed to leaggaly copy dvd's. You're allowed to make 1 copy and 1 backup as long as you dont seel them off or even give them away.

No because that would be helping them and against the forum rules.

It sounded to me as if it was his parents. I didn't want to shoot myself in the foot.

As I said before, you're allowed to backup movies you own. But this thread has moved away from its original topic. Shall we get back to it?
RE: DVD burner and slow burnign speed by joemailey on 04-03-2007 at 09:50 AM

I pointed him in the correct direction, Don't see how that is breaking forum rules its not illegal to back up movies.

i have some dvds
if you take posts at face value. same way i take your "only backup my own dvds" as face value.

but in this day and age alot of stuff done on a pc is illegal so not agree'n with one and doing the other is just wrong. if you break copyright somewhere you might as well do it all in.

Butt yea i'll agree with you about getting back on topic. :) lol

A little more to it.

I never said I did one and not the other. You implied it.
RE: DVD burner and slow burnign speed by joemailey on 04-03-2007 at 10:06 AM

this could go on for while i can't be bothered. everyone breaks copyright sooner or later its unavoildable in most cases and its done without realizing. this day and age people can do it so easy and know there doing it.

so we'll just leave it as you back up dvds, he wants to backup dvds - if he owns them or his parent sown them who knows or cares. the information is on the web its up to him to choose if he does it legally or illegally :)

i'm just answering his question at face value.

i'll openly admit everything on my pc is generally illegal except for

vista ultimate
office 2007
onecare.

rest is free or illegal.
