Hi all! RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Jarrod on 04-19-2007 at 01:33 PM try a windows repair RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Verte on 04-20-2007 at 07:16 AM
Yuck! RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by rob_botch on 04-20-2007 at 07:44 AM Thanks for your suggestions. However, I do have one or two problems: I don't have a full version of Windows on CD, just a restore disk, and System Restore won't work. I have already tried this with no success.I actually think that this problem is more concerned with malware. I have run several anti-spyware scans which have found but failed to remove infected files. RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Verte on 04-20-2007 at 07:57 AM Heh, do you remember what those files were? You might be able to replace them by hand, assuming you know someone who has a working OS the same version as yours. RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by rob_botch on 04-20-2007 at 08:00 AM I don't think that specific system files were mentioned, just names of malware. Some of these I remember: Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888, WinAntiVirusPro 2006, Virtumonde RE: RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Verte on 04-20-2007 at 08:17 AM
quote: I had some horrible persistent malware once, ETremover can be good for that stuff. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas [beyond "hey, they're giving away Ubuntu CDs now, might be worth the effort".] RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Oxy on 04-20-2007 at 09:36 AM What OS are you running? (and please, state every version number of Service pack where possible) RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by rob_botch on 04-20-2007 at 09:44 AM Windows XP Media Center Edition, English US, SP2, all auto updates are installed. Okay, i can't see anything wrong there... RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by rob_botch on 04-20-2007 at 11:13 AM

Have a look here - RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Dr4g0n on 04-20-2007 at 04:21 PM
I'm not sure the solution that duck! provided will work, since that is to do with explorer.exe never being loaded in the first place. RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by rob_botch on 04-21-2007 at 11:22 AM Thanks for the link duck!. However, the registry entries mentioned in that forum are all present and correct in my registry. I don't think that this is the problem. Strangely, AVG AntiSpyware no longer reports any malware, yet the problem persists. RE: [Help!] Startup Problems by Jarrod on 04-21-2007 at 09:08 PM
