All my contacts have been moved groups, and i really needed them in the groups i put them as it helps me to see who is on and when i need to find someone or more than someone i knew which group to go to.
So how can i get them back in the groups?
and group option is on but most contacts have been sent to the group 'Other contacts'

OK tell me if this is right, you had them in groups and somehow they all changed and you want to know how to put them back inot the groups you had before. Right?
2 options:
1) Click and Drag the contact back into the groups you had them before would probably be a good thing to try.
2) Right clicking on each contact and choosing group options and use wither copy or move options and move the contact that way might help

Nope, i know how to put them back, but i want to get it to change it itself back because i dont want to be going to each contact from around 200 to move every 200 individualy

This sounds like you might have a cache problem.
In that case, the contacts didn't changed group actually, it is just that Messenger wasn't able to get the group information from the servers at this time or that something is conflicting in your cache.
Only when it doesn't solve itself after a few days, I would manually (there is no other way) move them all back.
What you can try in the mean time is deleting your contacts cache:
1) completely close Messenger (right click the tray icon and choose 'exit').
2) Remove the directories:
\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\your_windows_live_id\
\Documents and Settings\your_username\Contacts\your_windows_live_id\
Note: some directories might be hidden, so make sure you have enabled the viewing of systemand hidden files in Windows Explorer's options.
It is worth a try as it wouldn't harm anything. It only might take a bit longer to log in the first time after you did this.
EDIT: EBFL, did you by any chance put something in your PSM (see here)?
