I have Windows Live Messenger 8.1 freezes on me all the time.  It lags on its own...it doesn't slow down my computer...  but the actualy MSN itself freezes and closedown on me!!!

I'm using Windows XP... i have no idea why its doing thiS!

Can someone help me?!

how many contacts do you happen to have? I remember reading somewhere that the more contacts you have the slower it tends to get and can freeze Messenger up.

Happens to me be in middle of typing a message to someone and messenger freezes.

i have to end the proccess then re open messenger assumed it as vista issue as it happens both on my laptop n my desktop

laptop = 32bit vista.
pc = 64bit vista.

I've just read somewhere that firewalls can cause an issue with this function, preventing the uPnP port from doing whatever it needs to do...

Sooo... advise is to disable any firewall you have to try it (including windows firewall)

Yet to try it myself... but will be doing shortly

if you have Zone Alarm, then yes definately as it is known to cause huge problems with Messenger.

I'm having real fun and games with MSN, everytime i send a msg, wink or a nudge etc it freezes on me for a few seconds, and then starts again.  I am unable to do anything with it, not even minimise the box when it does this.
It has only started doing this in the last week, and I've not changed anything, added or taken anything away.
It is so annoying, that I am not enjoying using it at the moment.

I have the same issue with all my computers.  I have 3 and all have the same freeze-up issue.   @ are XP Pro box's and the other is a server 2003 box.     Its gotta be bug in the software, too many ppl with this issue

I have the same problem.  It seems to be worse when someone initiates the message, because when i reply to that...it locks up.  If I send the message and leave it open....i have fewer problems.  I am running the exact same setup on two different systems and only one has this problem.

I have the same problem, i don´t have too many contacts, no firewall at all, and the only one is AVG 8.5 (this one i have it since forever) suddenly few days ago, messenger just freeze and unfreezes after a while when someone sends me a message or goes online, i tried to reinstall it and nothing, please some help i don´t want to format my pc
