hotmail and yahoo servernames by Shakeel on 05-31-2007 at 11:58 AM

What are the hotmail and yahoo server names please?

RE: hotmail and yahoo servernames by Deshi on 05-31-2007 at 09:35 PM

The Yahoo! name server i think are:

pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

Trying to find the MSN ones now...

unless your account has POP3 support, give up because it won't work.

You could try searching round for POP3 and SMTP mail servers for MSN and Yahoo but as far as I know, they are only avaliable to PAID email account, not free ones.

even then you still may not get POP3 particularly with Windows Live/MSN. Yahoo well I'm not 100% sure check Yahoo and their help pages

here is detailed instructions to see your Yahoo mail through pop:

In order to read your Yahoo! Mail an external email client (such as Eudora, Outlook, Netscape, etc.), you will need to configure the Incoming (POP) and Outgoing (SMTP) server settings so that it can send and receive messages from your Yahoo! Mail account. Generally, you can find these settings under the Tools or Preferences menus for your particular email program.

Important: Do not delete your incoming mail settings
If you are already receiving mail from another mail server (such as incoming mail to your address at your ISP), you will need to add a new POP account. Sometimes this is called a new "profile," sometimes a new "personality," depending on your email client. If your email client only allows you to receive mail from one POP server at a time, make sure you write down your current settings before you replace them with Yahoo! Mail settings so that you can change them back if you need to. Below you will find the server settings for accessing your Yahoo! Mail.

Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication

Account Name/Username: lordpatamon
Email address: lordpatamon@yahoo.com.mx
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

------------------------------------------------------------

In order to use the pop mode you have to enable in the options of your yahoo mail account

on Yahoo Mail is for free users too :)

Pop service for both Hotmail and Yahoo cost.  You have to use programs like FreePOPs and Web2pop or MrPostman. If you use Thunderbird there is a extension for Yahoo and Hotmail. WebMail is the extension I am talking about. Even if you do not use Thunderbird I suggest you look at the Thuncerbird page that talks about this. That page will list more programs than what I have listed that will work with any email client

actually Yahoo doesn't costs, unless they changed it and I never knew

edit: pop access in Yahoo mail is free, I just enabled it on my yahoo mail and it didn't asked me to pay anything.

not to mention now I have unlimited storage on my yahoo mail account for free :P

Here, it asks for money for POP3 access. See screenshot below.

odd, it enabled me for free, I even have unlimited storage ^o)

See? this is the shot I get when I click on pop and forwarding option:

and this next one is when I go to the old interfase to enable it:

is really odd how I have the option enabled in my free account, I'm not even using the free trial they offer of Yahoo mail plus ^o)

Where does it say you need to pay?

Enabling POP3 (you must enable it) for Yahoo is free, also for free user accounts.

Shakeel, see detail info given by dbgarza.

As for hotmail, that doesn't offer a free POP3 service. But you can use some additional program, like mentioned by dreaded, to gather email from Hotmail and simulate a POP3 account for it on your local computer (although, I personally don't find it worth the trouble and resources).
