help with CGI:IRC by joey on 06-15-2007 at 08:15 PM

i'm not really any good at scripting/coding n stuff like this and im a bit stuck! =p

i downloaded CGI:IRC 0.5.9 to put on my website for when i [or others] at work/school etc. but ive changed a few settings, [not the one's im not supposed to mind!] but i cant seem to get it to work =/

if anyone can think they could help pm/email me or add my msn address. help would be great. i thought it would be really simple, but im completely lost! :S

this is the output from when i upload it all to my cgi-bin directory. - http://joey.kernke.org/cgiirc-0.5.9/irc.cgi and then click on status when connetced. and i have no idea why this happens =/ help....?

simple. the web server doesn't allow communication over port 6667
try 6668 and 6669

have you even tried an unmodified version yet?

I agree with MeEtc's analysis and IRC port blocking by web hosts is common (I've enountered it before myself).

The server listens on some alternate ports (thank TReKiE for providing this info).  Try to configure your script to connect on 7000 or 56789.

no, you cant just have it all as default i dont think. you have to change a few things for it to connect to the servers you want etc. thanks ill try it now. =]

nope none of those ports seem to work :dodgy: i still get the same errors, and ive tried in on default settings too. nothing seems to work.

ive tried connecting to a different server all together, and it still comes up with the same error, anyone any good with perl? :P

And the MsgPlus IRC server is for MsgPlus users, why are you making it the default server?

RE: help with CGI:IRC by joey on 06-16-2007 at 10:12 AM

people can change if they want but its the only one im ususally on so its the default. i just dont understand why it wont work. ive done everything its told me to, and i haven't seen any decent alternatives....
