It seems as though this contact did not close the formatting tags (?) because the text formatting continues onto the "has just signed in." text.

Could you post the full nickname including the formatting tags? Get it from the Contact Information window.

I may be wrong, but I think thats caused by a unicode control character in their name rather than Messenger Plus! formatting tags.
There is one that allows you to set your font like that, and it will apply to everything after the name also.
