I you're only going to use it for 6 months i would go for a second hand one.

RE: Is this pc worth its price? by Steven on 07-27-2007 at 06:19 PM

I dont understand so is it worth it? I will probably use it more...

RE: Is this pc worth its price? by Menthix on 07-27-2007 at 06:28 PM

What i meant is if you're searching PC that doesn't have to be high end and must most importantly be cheap, then you're better of most of the time getting a nice second hand one (with higher specs) for an even cheaper price.

But yeah, i guess the one above is worth it's price. Note: Very cheap hardware for a very cheap price.

No, you can get a much better deal than that :P. I wouldn't get Vista Home Basic either, you're best off getting an XP machine, it's cheaper and your not facing limitations.

Where could i get a better deal? Is ebay the way? Do you have an example of a better deal? :D

lol, try taking it without Vista, that will slice the price in half.
other than that, it sounds like a not so powerful, but nice computer.

worse: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTool...No=1907613&CatId=6
better: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTool...No=2983681&CatId=6

both are cheaper but come with no monitors

(prices are in cad)

RE: Is this pc worth its price? by Phillip on 07-28-2007 at 09:16 AM

Yeah that first computer is not worth it. You could pick up that second hand for at most $100 here.

RE: Is this pc worth its price? by Steven on 07-28-2007 at 03:14 PM

Hey ShawnZ and everybody else Thanks. Before i saw your post shawn, I bought this,

Acer  16196WA
19 inch widescreen 5 ms response time 700:1.

For 219 CAD.  What do you think about it?

I bought it because i realised I need a screen for now, because my laptops screen is dead, so i just connected it to my laptop and realised that the back to school sale will happen in a few weeks and towers should drop and be around like 299. Btw ShawnZ im trying to avoid refurbished things.

RE: Is this pc worth its price? by ShawnZ on 07-29-2007 at 07:29 PM

er you probably could have just got your laptop repaired for free :p

I wish. Its old I want to get rid of it already im using the acer moniter right now on it. it constantly crashes while viewing videos or games, even with my cooling pad underneath. So does anyone know where I could get a good computer without monitor for cheap? Not refurbished, DVDburner, prefurably 1gb ram.

I honestly have to disagree. Building a computer yourself is better if you're into that kind of thing or if you are looking for quality. Only once you get into higher end components can you save money building a PC yourself, since OEMs can get larger quantities of low end parts for cheaper prices, and you do benefit from that.

Not only that, but the advantages is the fact you`re also going to get little gagdets that you would spend a lot on if you re going to build it yourself (eg : ligthscribe, bluetooth, card reader etc.)

err lightscribe burners are like $30 these days card readers and bluetooth are even less.

I could go into any computer shop here and build a budget PC for atmost $300 incl burner, Monitor, atleast a 9800pro, generic case, mobo with sata support, sata hdd, atleast a amd 3000+, keyboard and mouse.

All these companies like dell just use all generic crap. Its basically the same as all the cheapest shit at a computer store.

Aye, but cheap Dells (etc) also includes a $200 windows license (I know you can get it cheaper, or pirate it, but I'm making a point.) They also usually comes with tech support and a warranty. Nobody is saying that you can't build a PC on a budget, but for many people in this range buying pre-built is easier and cheaper.
