For anyone who has seen it, I think I am a bit confused. Does he die at the end from that shot to the face? And if so, where does it place the rest of the franchise movies on the time line?

Halloween (2007) is reimagined....basically, all the sequels you saw from Halloween (1978) do not carry over to the Halloween (2007) movie. Rob Zombie stated that his movie will not leave it open for sequels.

i've heard good things about this, but i never really go by what critics say... what did you think of it?

I saw it last night, I didn't like it too much. It leaves you hanging, once again. It was an OK directed movie, not the best Halloween movie I've seen. H20 was better.
