I was looking at my biosinfo.inf file (don't ask why) and i found stuff like this: quote: It looks interesting as it seems (to me) to be a list of all the computers that needed repairs or something. It probably isn't, but I was just wondering what it is if not that. RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by ShawnZ on 09-08-2007 at 11:08 PM how are those "microsoft" computers? RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by andrewdodd13 on 09-08-2007 at 11:19 PM
These are work-arounds provided by Microsoft to allow Windows to work on machines which have errors or other faults in the BIOS - although I'm not sure about the "Block Setup on these machines" section. RE: RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by ryxdp on 09-09-2007 at 12:50 AM
quote: In particular I found this machine entry: quote: These names sound like machine names (eg. you would call your PC "the home PC" etc.). The stuff just looked a bit unusual in there but I think I've got it now thanks to andrewdodd13. RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by ShawnZ on 09-09-2007 at 01:01 AM
quote: and why, exactly, would there be a random list of other people's hostnames on a disk that can only be written once? RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by ryxdp on 09-09-2007 at 01:16 AM
That's exactly my point. I haven't a clue. RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by ShawnZ on 09-09-2007 at 01:20 AM i've never even heard of a biosinfo.inf file. i'm just not an idiot. RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by Voldemort on 09-09-2007 at 01:55 AM actually, where did you find the file RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by ryxdp on 09-09-2007 at 01:56 AM
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\biosinfo.inf RE: "odd" stuff in biosinfo.inf by Verte on 09-09-2007 at 07:17 AM IIRC, that file also appears in /windows/inf, after a stock standard installation. |
