Would you like to know if you're blocked, read this :) by ahmetgns on 09-23-2007 at 01:04 AM

On one forum, someone wrote that detecting who blocked you is possible. I tested it and it really works :) The method is quite simple and easy.

Right click on any contact who you suspect about at Contact List, and View>Profile. When his/her profile is opened;

if you see one picture box (contact's profile picture), like the picture below, then that means you are blocked not allowed.

if you see two picture boxes like the picture below (or if a tooltip appears on a picture box and says "Display picture" when you hover on)  then that means nothing, you may still be blocked or allowed.

I reported this problem to Windows Live team, please you too report it: https://feedback.live.com/eform.aspx?productkey=wlmessenger and/or https://feedback.live.com/eform.aspx?productkey=wlspaces

The simple solution that I can think is adding "Noone" option to the permissions list of Messenger View part of Windows Live Profile. So people who can't see Messenger information of contacts can't be sure if they are blocked or not due to the existence of that option.

Also you must apply these steps in order not to compromise your privacy:

Sign in on Messenger > Go to Options > Click on "Edit Profile" button at Personal tab. Select "Everyone" for the permissions of your Messenger view on the page opened. Now everyone who visits your profile will see your Messenger view, however your blocked contacts can't get the situation.

If you find something wrong with this method, please post it here.

That's completely wrong. The first contact I viewed a profile for, who is online, has that picture box.

Well...i tried this and it did work. I used contacts that hadn't blocked me and saw that both pictureboxes appeared like he showed up there.
That is supposed to not mean anything.

Then i blocked myself from another account making sure the other account was online (not sure if this is necessary, just wanted to be safe). Then i checked the same profile again...and voila...there is only one picturebox like he said up there. I reversed the block and the other one appeared again.

I can't say it will always work...but it worked this once when i tried it so its worth looking into if i should say so.

i have tested and confirmed that this is not true:P, i have multiple accounts, i signed on with both, verifyed that neather are blocked from each other, yet they both only show the the one box:P

Complete BS

that is and always will be impossable, if it were possable, then there would be no point in blocking

true say...lol. It should be possible...but its not a good feature to implement since blocking is supposed to be a private thing.

I will just forget trying to find a solution to this then.

It is possible, and still there is the point of blocking. Blocking prevents to be seen Online and the messages to be sent, nothing more. Even if we know that someone blocked us, still we can't see him Online, and messages which we sent don't reach him and as you see Blocking is doing its job.

You might say that, but when you block someone, you wouldn't want them to find out if you've blocked them.

no it is not, it has already been proven that your original post is wrong, so what makes you so sure, and if it were possable i'm sure meny of the millions of smart people out there would have found the method and exploited it by now

give it up, you are wrong, block-checking is not possable

um, if the point of blocking is to prevent some one from seeing your online status, then why would block checkers,  not completely defeat that purpose? and if somebody KNOWS you've blocked them

THINK BEFORE YOU POST
