Can't go on my computer by spongeboy on 10-15-2007 at 09:26 PM
Whenever I turn my computer's power on it gives me a black screen that says
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt;
/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair
Is there any other way to solve this problem other than the obvious method?
Oh and if you are wondering how I am on this computer, I have 2 computers.

Follow the manual steps.
Good luck.

The complete instructions for fixing this problem are here.
The KB article above assumes you will be using a Windows CD and repair console, but you could also perform the tasks listed in the article by temporarily installing the hard drive as secondary drive in another computer. Either way, it is a pretty involved repair that requires copying files and changing file ownership / permissions.
