Please help. Messenger Plus! causing browser crashes. by f3nd3r on 11-18-2007 at 03:37 PM

Hi guys,

I need some help in resolving an issue I have just come across.

Heres what happens. When i open a link from within Windows Live Messenger, the browser tries to launch but crashes. This happens with IE and Firefox. I have tried setting both as default browser but they both crash when trying to launch a link, anywhere from within Windows Live Messenger. Not just from a chat window, but even the links on the Messenger Plus! About screen.
The only time it opens the link is if the browser window is already open. If the browser is closed it will always crash.

If i uninstall Messenger Plus! and click a link from within Windows Live Messenger, it opens in the browser just fine, so somewhere Messenger Plus! is causing the problem.

Any help is much appreciated.

After lots of messing around I have figured out what was causing the conflict with Msg Plus!. It was a piece of Malware called Win32.Agent.pz.

So if anyone else has a similar problem in the future, run some spyware checks first.

Thanks for the info (although I wonder how these things can be related).

No problem Patchu :)
I have no idea how they could be related. I guess the main problem is not knowing exactly what the malware is doing deep down.
