I'm not too happy about this (my cousins are in the range of 3-7 years old, and you know how little kids are about spyware etc.) So I've decided to just go with it, but I'd like to know my PC is totally childfriendly whilst being rather strict about what they do and what sites they visit. So what should I do in gpedit and what apps whould I get? RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ShawnZ on 12-29-2007 at 11:14 PM are you using vista? RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ryxdp on 12-29-2007 at 11:15 PM Nope, XP Pro. RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ShawnZ on 12-29-2007 at 11:22 PM
quote: do they need the ability to install programs? RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by Dane on 12-29-2007 at 11:33 PM Tbh, I wouldnt let any little kids (i.e. Under 16) on my computer. I would double-password it at the BIOS level and OS level, and just in case, I would limit all the accounts and make a backup of my system with Symantec's Award Winning Norton Ghost 12.0, which is very easy to use. Anyway, be prepared to format if you don't get it figured out and locked down well...they pretty much click all those ad's and install stuff like SmileyCentral and Games with Built in Trojans, etc... Just to open *certain* programs and the internet. I'm not letting them go too far. quote: It is a good idea... quote: AdBlock Plus. Enough said. Backing up stuff...I have a second HDD, I'll just stuff it all on there, take it out and hide it RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ShawnZ on 12-30-2007 at 12:02 AM
deny write/append/create file/create directory permissions to c:\program files and c:\windows. RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by Chancer on 12-30-2007 at 01:12 AM
Try changing something in the BIOS that makes impossible the use. RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ryxdp on 12-30-2007 at 02:20 AM Haha. Well, seeing as my sound card is stuffed, I just hope they might not want to use it. But just in case, I've made a rushed VB.NET app that shows a popup every time they logon to the guest account RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ShawnZ on 12-30-2007 at 04:19 AM why not run a VM in full screen or dual boot or something RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by MC Inferno on 12-30-2007 at 04:29 AM
quote: LMAO Too far man. How many under 16's will actually know how crack one pass at OS level? Never mind double pass on OS & BIOS Never mind locking it still with software! I'm 18 and I'd give up if came to BIOS Anyway, do what chancer says... quote: RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ryxdp on 12-30-2007 at 05:49 AM
quote: Too much hassle RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by ShawnZ on 12-30-2007 at 07:08 AM btw, to put on an OS password, run syskey. RE: RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by rav0 on 01-01-2008 at 12:47 AM
quote:I think that making a full backup would be best. Create the image and put it on another disk somewhere. Delete stuff from your computer that you don't want to share. Let them do what they like on a limited/power user account. When you come back, no matter if all they did was read an email or if they have found 100 viruses for you, just restore your backup. You end up with your computer just how you left it, and they get to use it easily. RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by CookieRevised on 01-01-2008 at 02:50 AM
Depending on how computer-aware they are, children of that age can be MAJOR MEGA EXTREMELY curious... Believe me when I say that even a 5 year old can screw up your entire PC (grrrr at my little cousin). RE: PC Restrictions - gpedit related by kao on 01-01-2008 at 06:40 PM Tell them to fo and bring their own PC or laptop. I don't let anyone touch my PC/laptop if I'm not here, ever. |
