Need help buying a laptop by Quantum on 01-03-2008 at 09:40 PM

Ok i need a new laptop the only place i looked is ebuyer. What can you guys find?

Budget: £400 ($800 US)
Any vista edition.

80GB++ HDD Space

...and any other good things.

Thanks

Hmm... for $800, you can get a fairly good laptop. And your getting Vista regardless. (but I highly advise you to find a way to get XP, Vista is just too damn slow on my own laptop) - 1 GB RAM, 140 GB HDD (it's 160, but a good chunk is used for recovery and Vista itself)

HP has a good selection on laptops that are even $600 on their website, and Newegg.com has a ton of selections.

In my own experiences with Vista, it just ain't worth the hassle. I've already had trojans from who knows where after 3 recoveries and I still get them. I don't ever have that kind of problem with XP, so who knows.. For all I know, Vista is a useless OS with crap for security, and it's "eye candy" Aero theme.

Is there a way of narrowing my results? Play.com just gives me a huge list.

RE: Need help buying a laptop by Nathan on 01-03-2008 at 10:03 PM

Search for higher and higher specs with the lowest price, best way to do that :)

play.com wont let me do that?

Advanced search...

RE: Need help buying a laptop by Quantum on 01-03-2008 at 10:17 PM

There is no advanced search.

RE: Need help buying a laptop by ayjay on 01-03-2008 at 10:58 PM

You could have looked through them all by now :P
It doesn't exactly take long to just scan down the list looking at only the prices.

you can use dabs.com to narrow down options to find exactly what you want

just keep clicking on the different things you want until you're left with only a few laptops

It's not bad, just I'm not a fan of AMD and would prefer Intel. But hey, your money. XD

Wouldn't suggest Acer at all, although cheap, EVERYONE I know who's gotten one (a mimimum of 7 or 8 persons I can recall instantly) have gotten not only major peripheral issues, but bad tech support to get it fixed.

I can back this up.  Same goes for Dell.

I do IT Support for my hall at University and Acers and Dells are the most common ones i get called out for

I've had my Fujitsu-Siemens for 2 years with no problems, and before that I had a Compaq Presario which is still running very successfully and it's currently half way through its 5th year of usage.
