Video but no audio in MOV file by alegator on 01-18-2008 at 04:08 PM
Hi, I downloaded the "Large" guided tour for the MacBook Air from the Apple website:
http://movies.apple.com/movies/us/apple/mac/macbookair/2008/apple ... 48x528.zip
It's a 184MB MOV file. When I try to play it with Quicktime Player it shows video but no audio. Just to discard problems with my Quicktime Player I upgraded to the latest version (v7.4 with latest updates) and downloaded other MOV files to test and it plays them fine with both audio and video, so the problem seems to be with this file alone. Mediainfo shows the details attached below for the file. Anyone can provide a clue as to what's causing this? Thanks.

Are your speakers on/working? Sounds stupid but...
Also, are you sure it HAS sound? It may have been removed if not nessacerry to reduce file size and bandwidth

Yes, my speakers/audio hardware, drivers, etc all fine. And yes, it does have sound as evidences by the Mediainfo log. If you download it yourself you'll realize it's a product presentation with sound.

Try using another program (such as VLC to play the movie. It may not work - I don't remember off hand if VLC has QT Mov support.
Also, just try checking whether QuickTime plays audio for any other file. Could just be it's crappy.

How about Quicktime Player (or Windows?) audio/volume settings?

Perhaps you don't have the AAC LC codec installed. If you don't have this, the sound won't work.
