Processor - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHZ i believe)      $325
Ram - 4gb DDR2 667MHZ 2x2gb Kingston                             $125
HDD - Western Digital SATA 500gb                                        $129
GFX - 512mb 8600GT ASUS                                                    $129
Optical Drive - Pioneer SATA 212D D.l                                    $35
Monitor - 20" DVI WS Viewsonic 2026W                                $249
Case - R.D. Performance 600                                                $49
OS - Windows Vista Home Premium                                      $139

The only thing I would change is the OS. But with specs like that, Vista shouldn't have any major difficulty in running.

get an XFX Graphics card, they are pre overclocked and have massive fans on them

thx for all ur suggestions...

Do u guys think i should get a Core 2 Duo E6850 (2 cores) or a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (4 cores), they are the same price but im not sure why...could someone explain?

RE: New computer by andrewdodd13 on 01-25-2008 at 02:14 PM

The E6850 has 2 cores with 4MB L2 cache and a 1333MHz FSB and runs at 3.0GHz, the Q6600 has 4 cores with 4MB L2 cache and a 1066MHz FSB to run 2.4GHz.

That's about it. :)

Get something better than an nvidia 8600 if you can stretch.

RE: New computer by Shippo on 01-25-2008 at 10:52 PM

Like before, I'd switch out Vista for something else.

Um, since I'm not a fan of nVidia, all I can suggest is some ATI card, but can't help much there anyway.

hmm, which one do u believe is a better choice, since they are exactly the same price...
RE: New computer by MeEtc on 01-25-2008 at 11:18 PM

Personally, probably the dual core

None of those! Buy the brand new E8500, which is for sale at the same price and features 6MB L2, 45nm core and runs @ 3.16 Ghz

Pre-overclocked is not a good thing.
RE: New computer by Shippo on 01-31-2008 at 02:53 AM

Then again, overclocking is usually never a good thing anyway.. no matter the amount of fans or whatever type of cooling it has.

Whether or not it voids the warranty, I don't know, but I do believe it shortens the life of the hardware itself and you'll end up spending more money than needed. (friend of mine told me this, he messes with and builds computers all the time)
