Dedicated Servers by andrewdodd13 on 03-17-2008 at 10:08 PM

I'm looking for a dedicated server [for those of you who don't know, this isn't the same as a Web Server] to run a server application for a game me and a few friends from Uni are developing.

We're not wanting to pay through the nose for it at the moment - it doesn't need to have exceptionally high bandwidth allowances or disk space - it needs:
2 MySQL Database [Could possibly be reduced to one]
Windows Server - Preferably 2003 as 2000 has some dodgy thread pool size issues.
Around 100mb of webspace - this is mainly for the database.

Anyone got anything good? We're looking for it to be less than £30 a month, but realise this is maybe unreasonable.

We can actually provide WS2003 Student Licence copies if that'd make it cheaper.

Any real dedicated machine will give you unlimited MySQL databases and at least 30GB or so of storage (usually even 80 as harddisks smaller than that are getting rare).

If these are your only requirements you should take a look at a VPS (Virtual Private Server). They behave the same ad a dedicated, but you share the physical hardware with a X am mount of people and because of that it's much cheaper.

Thanks, but if you look closer you have to pay £360 for Windows Server 2003...

@MenthiX
I was actually thinking of a Virtual Private Server, however it does have to be able to listen on a variety of ports.

And yes if it's anything like this guy I know's VPC then we should just be able to Remote Control it and install MySQL ourselves. :)
