Messenger Plus! has NOT been uninstalled from your computer. by MBoonie63 on 03-28-2008 at 02:15 PM

Hi, all. This morning, I received an upgrade here at work that (ostensibly) removed Messenger and installed Communicator. Therefore, I thought it would be time to uninstall Messenger Plus!

However, when I tried to unistall it via "Add/Remove Programs", I get the message "Messenger Plus! has NOT been uninstalled from your computer. Please try again later." I made sure no other apps were running, I've rebooted, but still nothing.

Any tips? Thanks in advance for any help.

I suggest you simply reinstall Messenger Plus! 3 from the "Old Download" secction of the web site and uninstall it agian. It will fix whatever problem you currently have with the install :).

Ay, there's the rub: since I no longer have Messenger installed (it was a silent upgrade done here at work), it won't install. Or, to be precise, nothing appears to happen when I launch MsgPlus3-Setup.exe; no processes appear in Task Manager, either.

I guess I'll have to find a utility to force the un-install...

try this utility:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 : Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
It won't remove any files from any program you have installed, only the settings associated with Windows Installer. After running that, you should be able to re-install, and then do a proper uninstall.

Do NOT use any third party program to remove Messenger Plus!. It is always a bad idea to try to remove something with a tool made by somebody else, except in absolute necessity.

If you want to remove Messenger Plus! 3 manually, it'S very simple:
Delete the whole "C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3" directory.
Delete the "Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2" registry key from both CURRENT_USER and LOCAL_MACHINE.

That's all :).

And to completely remove every trace of Plus!3 (_excluding_ the stored custom sound files which are in most cases located in a directory under the application directory of all user, and which can be used in Plus! Live too)

Check and if they exist, remove:

In registry key path:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
remove the key with name: MessengerPlus2
remove the key with name: MessengerPlus3

In registry key path:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
remove the key with name: MessengerPlusUninstall

Remove the complete registry key path:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\MsgPlus! Plugin

In the registry key path:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
if the key name: AppInit_DLLs contains the value: MsgPlusLoader.dll, then overwrite the value with an empty string.

Not sure about this one (even though this is for Plus!2 only):
In the registry key path:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
remove the key with name: MessengerPlus2

oh and don't forget to remove MsgPlusUninst.bat in your temporary files folder...

:p
