I've had this problem since day 1 really but haven't bothered to try sort it till now...

Q: when i logon all my contacts show with the default Display Picture which doesn't change unless i open a chat window which then updates the picture...is this normal or is something wrong?

i remember with old MSN messenger you'd log on and it would update all the display pictures of people online without doing anything....

I've had this same issue for a while. Can't really say when it started. If you single-click on the contact, the profile pic comes up after a few seconds, then it's there until you sign out.

Haven't found anything anywhere on the interent discussing this problem and until now I thought I might be the only one experiencing it!

I'm using Live Messenger 8.5.1302.1018 and Messenger Plus! Live version 4.70.0.334, on Windows Vista Business SP1.

Love to get this fixed!

One simple solution would be to upgrade to version 9.0 which was released a couple of weeks ago. I've noticed this problem before, but the display pictures have always been up to date in the contact list since I started using the 9.0 beta.

I would upgrade if Messenger Plus! would work with 9. I guess I'm stuck for a while...

There is a compatible version of Messenger Plus! Live that can be found on the download page, look for the small text underneath the download button.

The full version should be out in the next few days, if you'd rather wait

I have the same problem and Im using the final version of wlm, the display pics of my contacts dont change unless I start a open the chat window.

The problem's even worse with Beta 9.
The contact display pics ONLY show up in the conversation window. I can't see any way to get them to show up in the contact list. (There's no "Display Details" checkbox in the menus that I can find... I've tried all sizes of contact pics... Maybe I'm missing a setting?

Here ya go. The conversation window has the proper display pic, but the contact list not so much. Oh - the problem is there for folks WITHOUT a mobile connection too, they just show up as the default icon.
Available (green outline) contacts, same problem.
Me being online or offline makes no difference either.

I'm not sure if this would help but there's an option in Messenger saying something like "this is a shared computer so don't story my address book, display picture, or personal message on it". Make sure it is unchecked and see if that helps, maybe it's preventing Messenger from saving your contact's pictures as well. It should be udner the Security tab.

Isn't this normal? My messenger has always being like that as far as i can remember. And iinm versions before 14 would not show the display pic on the contact window  unless you installed a patch, or am I wrong?

No, all versions since MSN 6 have shown display pictures in conversation windows without any add-ons
