I run windows XP sp1 , which messenger version should I download and run on it. I don't want to upgrade to SP 2

Download Windows Live Messenger 8.1 : Clicky.
There'll probably be a way to run 8.5 on XP SP1 trying googling or wait for someone else to reply.

Mess.Be released a version without the live installer, which works on SP1 as far as I remember.
