Blurred YouTube videos by Numbnewbie on 04-23-2008 at 07:18 AM

Hi I hope someone can help a dumb female:( I uploaded a couple of "still" videos on YouTube, all the photos are of high quality, when I scroll through them they look fine but as soon as they are uploaded the images are all "pixeley" :(

Any suggestions? :) nice ones please ;)

Thanks

Are you viewing the video in standard quality? or High quality?

RE: Blurred YouTube videos by NanaFreak on 04-23-2008 at 10:31 AM

its because youtube resizes the images and also decreases quality on uploaded videos

wow guys quick response, thanks

I believe I am viewing in high quality, other videos and any films/tv I watch on my computer are all good.  Can I change settings on the videos I have uploaded??

Can I correct the resizing of the images before I upload them so You Tube doesnt in a way that does not change the quality when viewed???

not really numbnewbie, you could in theory resize the photos to the same size as youtube container but then if someone went full screen it'd look even worse

oh ok, thank you for replying.  It is a little frustrating when I know the photos are good, perhaps I could withdraw the video and then reload it?? :|

They compress the movies and resize them so they won't take that much space on their servers and to make them load faster, this however also has the side effect that the quality gets worse. Nothing you can really do about it, however they do have the High Quality settings now, that should make them a bit better, but other than that there's nothing much you can do about it except, upload them at the specified resolution, because this will cause the least amount of quality degradation.

so the best thing to do is to ensure my pictures are of high quality before uploading ?

No, the best thing to do is to upload them to an IMAGE file hoster, not a VIDEO file hoster.
This way you shouldn't lose any quality at all.

you can use google to find such image hosters.

Yeah, true, I thought you meant you uploaded a slide show of some kind, if it's just photo's you're better off uploading to sites such as photobucket, imageshack or flickr

flickr being favoured i'd say, can also make good use of windows live photo gallery then
