What should I get? £250-£300 max. RE: Graphics card by Th3rmal on 05-22-2008 at 07:22 AM i like the 8800GTS so that would be my choice. I dont know much about the ATI card as i have never been a fan of ATI. RE: Graphics card by mattisdada on 05-22-2008 at 07:42 AM
8800GTS is one of the worst options to buy a graphics card. The 8800GT is cheaper and more powerfull. I recommend the 8800GT, or the 9600GT if you want more VALUE but less performance. RE: Graphics card by Th3rmal on 05-22-2008 at 08:53 AM
quote:I would have to agree, the GT is much better than the GTS, and it is relatively cheap as well. I stated in my last post that the GTS is better, i would probably stick by that if we were comparing the GTS and the 3800, but that would be because im a nvidea fanboy RE: RE: Graphics card by Phillip on 05-22-2008 at 08:58 AM
quote:I was able to pick up my 3870 for $190 less than the 8800GT's were a few months ago and clock it slightly higher. Out performed my mates PCs in games like Crysis and Cod4 etc.. I wouldn't have called it budget at the time but now both the 8800gt and the 3870 are budget gfx cards. Can't suggest what card you should get now because I really just don't give a shit now. quote:I dont think the 8800GT can be classified as a budget card, seeming as it is still one of the more expensive ones out there...especially the 512mb or the 1gb models RE: Graphics card by John Anderton on 05-22-2008 at 09:55 AM

quote:Just because you have a job doesn't justify the cost. I for one wouldn't want to spend insane amounts on unjustifiable objects irrespective of how much I have in my pocket/bank. RE: RE: Graphics card by Phillip on 05-22-2008 at 10:07 AM
quote:I would hardly call $200 insane amounts of money I could have purchased 4 of them with this weeks pay. RE: Graphics card by Th3rmal on 05-22-2008 at 11:47 AM
quote:My studies are more important than me earning a little money. The new 9800GTX cards might be worth having a look at. At MSY their price ranges from $340-385 AUD RE: RE: Graphics card by andrewdodd13 on 05-22-2008 at 10:32 PM
quote:Yes and no. The old 8800GTS [the 384/768mb models] are based on the old G8x cores and are indeed no good, but the new ones [512mb/1gb ram] are based on the G92 core [same core as the 8800GT] but the memory and GPU cores are clocked at a higher rate, hence it's faster [edit: than the GT]. Also, the GT has 112 stream processors whereas the GTS has all 128 unlocked. The 9600GT only has half this - 64 stream processors, but it's based on the newer G94 core. If you have the cash, I'd get a 9800GTX. But you should realise the jump from 8xxx to 9xxx is much smaller than that from 7x. to 8x. [at least for equivalent models]. Also, I'm yet to see a 1GB 9800GTX.. but there are definitely 1GB 9600GTs. RE: Graphics card by ShawnZ on 05-23-2008 at 12:38 AM
quote: where do you work? RE: Graphics card by mattisdada on 05-23-2008 at 06:15 AM Phillip, did you know that the 8800GT can be OC'd to . Thats making an unfair comparision. RE: RE: Graphics card by Phillip on 05-23-2008 at 06:19 AM
quote:Oh wow thanks I never knew that.. I was saying that the 3870 was $190 cheaper and a little overclock brought it past the 8800gt. These days the 8800gt is cheap as so that would be the card I recommend to people who are on a budget. |
