question about System recovery on gateway. [vista] by guanako on 06-02-2008 at 09:23 PM

well my desktop that i bought from gateway with vista home premium, has slowed down quite a bit because of me trying to "tweak" it. so i am curios because i know there is a system recovery feature on this machine 4.46GB on (R:) Recovery partition. so if I choose to use this recovery to go back to factory defaults so to say. what will i loose? pics, music?... i want suggestion or what should i know before doing this.
i guess i have this options:

Click one of the following system recovery options when prompted
• Recovery with Automatic Data Backup (recommended)— This moves the contents
of the hard drive to the C:\My Backup folder and installs a new copy of Windows. This
option saves your existing data fi les, but all programs must be re-installed and the
program settings reconfi gured. You need at least 4 GB of hard drive space to use this
restore option
• Full Factory Recovery—Reformats and restores the system software as it was when
you purchased your computer. This process deletes your data fi les, so they must be
saved on an external disc prior to reformatting.

They both suck, get a non Gayway Vista disk :p

Do a repair install with a Vista Disk

You'll lose installed programs, files may be there but they won't be "installed"
