Hey, RE: Which one? by prashker on 09-03-2008 at 09:20 PM
320GB one....5400rpm is scrotum bad RE: Which one? by Stigmata on 09-03-2008 at 09:30 PM Can't you tell us the rest of the laptop's specs and prices? RE: Which one? by ipab on 09-03-2008 at 10:02 PM I must say that after being a computer tech for the past 3 years and dealing with customers' broken laptops, I would definitely go for the free fall protection. You'd be surprised how easy laptop HDDs crap out. RE: Which one? by andrewdodd13 on 09-03-2008 at 10:21 PM
Yeah, go for the 7200RPM one. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-03-2008 at 10:37 PM
quote:Alienware m15x (I cba to type out the whole spec) but its 2k And yeah it has "g-sensors" which lock the needle agaisnt the platter to stop it scratching or something RE: Which one? by Adeptus on 09-04-2008 at 04:57 AM
It's a case where you need to decide what your priorities are. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-04-2008 at 11:49 AM
Yeah there is 5400 hybrid which is very similiar to 7200rpm. But yeah how much battery life do I save with 5400? RE: Which one? by Kenji on 09-04-2008 at 01:02 PM
Alienware sucks.. and why do they think its ok to charge £200 for a 320GB HDD? RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-04-2008 at 01:11 PM
quote:Thinkpads are horrible :/ I really don't like them. (that's just my opinion) Anyway new question, which one (considering its only .1ghz different and 3mb cache - is that alot more) Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 2.4GHz (3MB Cache 800MHz FSB) [+£99] Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB) [+£166] Thanks EDIT, oh and dazzy they charge less for more storage: Single Drive Configuration - 120GB 7200 RPM SATA with Free Fall Protection [Standard] Single Drive Configuration - 160GB 7200 RPM SATA with Free Fall Protection [+£78] Single Drive Configuration - 250GB 7200 RPM SATA [+£154] Single Drive Configuration - 320GB 7200 RPM SATA with Free Fall Protection [+£201] Single Drive Configuration - 400GB 5400 RPM SATA [+£176] Single Drive Configuration - 500GB 5400 RPM SATA [+£249] So actually for £200 I can get 400GB but its only 5400RPM RE: Which one? by Kenji on 09-04-2008 at 01:24 PM
quote:Well, if you want to buy something that has so many problems then go ahead. quote:you can pick up and 7200 RPM 320GB drive for around £120, same goes for a 5400RPM 400GB drive. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-04-2008 at 01:25 PM
quote:Had, teething problems , I Was aware of that thread. Believe it or not I've been waiting for one of these babies for months. And It's not as bad as it used to be. Anyway I'm set for a alienware so I'm not changing. And I swear your a thinkpad advertiser :/ RE: Which one? by Kenji on 09-04-2008 at 01:45 PM
quote:Im not. Its just that thinkpads are one of the most reliable brands (Ignoring the SL series). They are built to last, simple as that. Enjoy your ugly and overpriced alienware when you get it. quote:If you can afford it, get the t9300. though there isnt that much of a performance gain according to this (To me anyway). RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-04-2008 at 02:05 PM
quote:Yeah, and they also look like they're from 1930. And I prefer customization, and choose what I want, I believe the thinkpad doesn't do that. And the t9300, does seem to have slightly better RE: RE: Which one? by andrewdodd13 on 09-04-2008 at 04:29 PM
quote:On the other hand - unless you're actually made of money - when you actually have the laptop you'll soon realise that the sheer prices weren't actually worth it. I have a £500 laptop from 4 years ago which I still use - the higher spec ones at the time would not be all that much faster these days. In the hard-disk area, the truly best idea is to go for a small HD - like 120GB or so, that way you can then just pick up a WD Passport 320GB for like £80... And in CPU intensive stuff you should actually see a large increase in performance with a bigger cache (double the cache is pretty sweet), so if you are going for the best of the best then buy the T9300. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-04-2008 at 05:08 PM
quote:But they where! The acer is future proof for what I need. It has "slot in bays" for extra batterys, cd/blu-ray drives, hard drives etc. quote:No, I don't even use my WD 500gb hdd at the moment. I use a laptop because I like using it anywhere I want. quote:The T9300 it is then Thanks RE: Which one? by Menthix on 09-04-2008 at 05:21 PM
quote:HDD protection is designed to protect your data. In most cases you will still have to repair the unit after a drop, the HDD protection is merely there to ensure the data is still there after the repair. RE: Which one? by joey on 09-04-2008 at 05:49 PM
you want the BATES 4000!!!!!!! RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-07-2008 at 12:54 PM
I've just ordered it RE: Which one? by Menthix on 09-07-2008 at 01:29 PM
quote:They configure that for you or something ? RE: Which one? by Felu on 09-07-2008 at 01:32 PM
quote:IDK but I surely won't pay extra money for that... RE: Which one? by Menthix on 09-07-2008 at 02:26 PM Indeed, I was going to say the same. I always format my new PC anyway... my last laptop came pre-installed with Norton and an eBay toolbar . RE: Which one? by prashker on 09-07-2008 at 02:56 PM price? RE: Which one? by Voldemort on 09-07-2008 at 03:14 PM
quote:are you aware of how that works? RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-07-2008 at 11:09 PM
sam it was £1987 RE: Which one? by ipab on 09-08-2008 at 12:30 AM
quote: I think he is referring to this. RE: Which one? by ShawnZ on 09-08-2008 at 12:37 AM i think he meant more along the lines of nathan is going to buy the wrong type of RAM RE: Which one? by prashker on 09-08-2008 at 01:17 AM
quote:what in the god damn scrotum hair... I just got a new laptop and it's like yours, but mine has a Blu-ray/HD-DVD reader and 4GB of ram and a 1GB 9600GS instead of a 512 9800GTX. 1350CAD == 893EUR = 717GBP that's messed up Unless i'm missing something crucial??? RE: Which one? by Voldemort on 09-08-2008 at 01:33 AM
[20:31] <shawnzs> alright then RE: Which one? by ShawnZ on 09-08-2008 at 01:38 AM holy shit, $3537? he really is retarded RE: Which one? by prashker on 09-08-2008 at 01:39 AM and no Nathan if you use a counter argument that you just have the money for it, i won't approve RE: Which one? by vaccination on 09-08-2008 at 07:13 AM £1987, jesus, my desktop has better specs and cost me half that. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-08-2008 at 07:30 AM
sam whats your proccesor and my gfx card is better plus im guessing yours is 17 inch RE: Which one? by prashker on 09-08-2008 at 11:02 AM
quote:no mines 15 inch, T9400 2.5Ghz, 1GB 9600M GS if the point you're trying to say is your laptop is better than mine, it's not £1270 better quote:that's fine but you should probably understand that you are completely wasting your money/your parents money, £1987 is a lot RE: RE: Which one? by andrewdodd13 on 09-08-2008 at 11:51 AM
quote:A 9800GT is just an 8800GT with triple SLI support. All I will say on the matter. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-08-2008 at 06:29 PM Still, like I said it's up to me what I buy, I happen to like alienware and have wanted one for a long time... RE: Which one? by ipab on 09-08-2008 at 07:56 PM
quote: Agreed, sometimes I feel like buying something for the sake of buying it, or that I have wanted it for a long time. At that point, the cost is immaterial to me . RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-08-2008 at 09:35 PM
thank you i see you know what im on about RE: Which one? by vaccination on 09-09-2008 at 11:35 AM

quote:it's* So is my custom built desktop, and it was at least half the price of Nathan's new laptop(if you bought the parts now it'd be even cheaper). Better specs too. Not to mention, paying 1k for a brand name is ridiculous, ffc found same spec laptop for £900. RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-09-2008 at 09:57 PM
But it looks like shit. Another main factor is smartbay on the alienware which no other laptops have. Also its fully user upgradeable, slot new gfx card in, cpu etc no problem. RE: Which one? by vaccination on 09-10-2008 at 09:52 AM
quote:My PC looks epic, it has lights too, and guess what, it's also fully user upgradeable, holy shit! RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-10-2008 at 06:13 PM That's a crap comeback tbh . My point is, it's a laptop, not a pc. I need a laptop, not a pc... RE: Which one? by vaccination on 09-10-2008 at 06:42 PM My point is, you're paying £1000 more because it says 'Alienware' on it. RE: Which one? by kao on 09-10-2008 at 10:15 PM rofl at price. RE: Which one? by Kenji on 09-10-2008 at 10:20 PM

quote:And it's up to us to warn you, since you decided to made this embarassing decision public lol. Nice way to ruin some money. quote: RIGHT, that must be why Alienware does not dominate the laptop market. DOH! Lets put it this way : Alienware = Overpriced with an alien skull, some lights and a wannabe design. Vaio = Overpriced with no alien skull, good looking design. Most brands = Reasonably priced, no skull, different lights and good looking design. I hope you enjoy your laptop but I also would like to think that futurely you'd handle money more wisely. Especially, money that is not yours. RE: Which one? by Menthix on 09-10-2008 at 11:21 PM

i've always wanted alienware lolz. RE: Which one? by ShawnZ on 09-10-2008 at 11:46 PM

RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-11-2008 at 08:26 PM Huh no. no second thougts, someone in pg5 said it was a waste ofmoney but im onmobile so i couldmt quickly see who it was. so yeah it was an indirect reply RE: Which one? by MeEtc on 09-11-2008 at 09:44 PM well, when it does arrive on the 26th, be prepared to ship it back on the 27th for a broken hinge RE: Which one? by Jhrono on 09-12-2008 at 02:49 AM
quote: quote: Hm... I posted 100 words, of which 9 were about Vaio laptops and 0 were about performance / quality. Congratulations on argueing about 0% of my post lol. Nice rhetoric there, cowboy. RE: Which one? by Felu on 09-14-2008 at 01:09 PM
Nathan, you sure could spend as much as you want on whatever you want to buy. But its really stupid on your part paying so much money for those specs. Thats just wasting money as you could get something equivalent or better, both in terms of specs and performance/quality, than that for a much lower price. This way you're just spending more than required and thats literally wasting. RE: Which one? by andrewdodd13 on 09-14-2008 at 03:04 PM
I have to point out, that buying any sort of high end Intel processor at this point is silly what with Nehalem coming out in October / November... =\ RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-16-2008 at 06:14 PM its ok alienware have said i can upgrade the processor and its not 4 hours rated, thats what aw users have repotred (it has 2 gfx cards an intel intergrated and the 8800gt . to save battery i switch to the intergrated one cool isnt it) RE: RE: Which one? by andrewdodd13 on 09-16-2008 at 09:15 PM
quote:Several things: 1) It does not have two graphics card - it has one. The Intel thing is a built in chipset and hence is not actually a graphis card 2) You have to reboot to switch modes, which is a pain in the arse (my HP has this "feature") - especially since the Intel graphics suck so hard. 3) According to reviews I read it gets 2-3 hours on low power mode, which makes much more sense. My Eee has a 30W power supply, and hence must draw a lot less power. The battery is a 6600mAhr, and it maxes out around 5hrs 30. Edited footnote: Do not believe what a products forum members say, ever. They are on that products forum because they are fan bois. Head over to Mac forums to see what I'm on about RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-16-2008 at 10:50 PM lol 3 to 4 hours with a smartbay battery as well and lol at the mac comment RE: Which one? by Nathan on 09-19-2008 at 06:53 PM
