First off, for whatever reason the newly released WLM 9.0 Beta doesn't want to work, right? So I try to downgrade to 8.5 - that doesn't work either.
When I click on the insallation icon it seems to work up to a point. Once I clicked on 'next' or whatever it was on the first window I got an odd message:
"There was a problem with the installation. Windows Live Suite was not installed.
System error details
Code: 0x8000ffff
Description: Catastrophic failure "
Okay...Catastrophic failure? Really? That's a pretty scary word to describe what's happening...Should I be worrid that I can't install WLM 8.5 due to a 'catastrophic failure' ?

just uninstall the 9.0 and install the new one... its not a problem.
