Firefox stopped working by Chrono on 12-13-2008 at 05:43 AM
any known reasons of why it could've stopped working? It suddenly crashed and then never worked again. i tried uninstalling, deleting the profiles and reinstalling... i even installed version 2 just in case, but it didnt work either. Whenever i click on the exe, nothing happens.
i tried all the obvious things from mozilla's support website.
i cant access the profile manager, and it wont start up in safe mode.
Any ideas? Any known virus/trojan/i dont know that may have caused this?

its my wrath, chrono, it is!
(is it actually opening when you double click it? look for the process in taskmgr)

Try version 1.5
I remember having a similar problem when v2 was released. It would show on task manager for a second and then it crashed (no error messages).
I think I fixed it by uninstalling and then deleting the Mozilla Firefox directory in program files.

well it's not that easy... you can first test to start it in safe mode, you put this string in the target of the shortcut for firefox.
..\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
This makes all extensions deactivated, (you more a less reset firefox)
You may check if the process is running when you start, delete first then start.
If this not work you go to your windows profile ex C:/Users/You/ here you go to appdata or applicationdata then to roaming if you use vista. search after the mozilla folder.
you can try to un install firefox and delete all application data

Exhaust every other method possible before doing something drastic like moving to IE

try doing a system restore back to when it wasnt crashing.
RE: Firefox stopped working by MeEtc on 12-14-2008 at 02:52 AM
download procmon. run it. stop running the log that starts right away.
open up task manager, and when ready start logging again and launch firefox. stop logging after you see the process disappear from task manager.
zip and upload the log somewhere. its going to be quite big.

if you have vista try booting from the disk and do a system restore from there.

as discussed via WLM, nothing about the firefox process is out of the ordinary, but the process list is showing a lot of command prompt sessions started by csrcs.exe
A bit of searching suggests that this is a virus called W32/Spybot-EI
RE: Firefox stopped working by M73A on 12-17-2008 at 02:11 AM
Mine is doign the EXACT same thing. every single thing Chrono has said is happening to me! ARGH!
any known solutions? im going to check for virus's but i doubt it, haven't downloaded or accessed anythign dodgy.
Tried a system restore and that did absolutely nothing aswell.....
RE: Firefox stopped working by M73A on 12-17-2008 at 02:45 AM
STUPID SEMI FIX
rename the .exe to firefox1.exe or something and it works...
they ANNOYING THING IS, when mine opened it came up with the page "firefox updated"
WHAT A JOKE!
now how can i find out what's making it do this
i hope its not a virus now!! ¬_¬
EDIT:
okay its the firewall.....
the STUPID thing is, my firewall is set to allow firefox.exe etc. and firefox1.exe has the same permissions.
1.exe works and normal doesnt!
as soon as i disable the firewall it works!
STRANGE!

Well, presuming it is the worm that MeEtc says, you need to get rid of it.

This worked for me:
open your firewall settings / rules
delete the rule for firefox
open firefox that always crashes so your firewall asks you to allow or block it.
then it worked for me!
