iTunes/iPod Problem by matt on 12-23-2008 at 02:42 AM

A friend of mine recently bought an iPod touch and while trying to input music and videos we couldn't have the iTunes recognize the iPod.  Apparently it is a problem with the iTunes version.  I have iTunes 8.0.2 and when I connected the iPod to another computer with iTunes 8.0.0 the iPod was recognized and able to be used.

Does anybody knows why would this be like this? I've been trying to get the 8.0.0 version, but nothing yet.

:(

Any help?

btw, it is a 32 GBs iTouch of f. 500 USD!! :((((

Do you have Apple Mobile Device Support installed?

The iPod Touch needs this to be recogniesd by iTunes.

Try uninstalling iTunes completely, restarting your computer, then installing the latest version

Just about to post that... the other thing you could do is just put the touch in DFU mode and see if gets recognized by iTunes, if it does not, you know for sure that somehow the Apple Mobile Device Support got uninstalled.

You might want to download it then. Apparently it comes with the new versions of iTunes, but no harm in trying it.

IIRC It's a windows service, just check to see if it is installed in Add/Remove Programs. If it is, then try to manually get it to run by going typing 'services.msc' into the 'run' dialog.

If any part of this doesn't make sense, don't hesitate to ask for clarification :).

IIRC is an acronym for If I Can Recall, the thing you are looking for is (guessing by the other posts) Apple Mobile Device Support.

Does anything actually appear on the iPod's screen when you plug it in?
Does the device appear in device manager?
- Yes: Do the drivers appear to be installed?
- No: Is your USB port working correctly?

I always think of it as remember, no difference really though.
