hi there
I have installed windows live messenger 2009 and it doesn't let me to log in at all. The error code is 80040154 :/
and i have tried like everything to sign in >,<
Please help

Keep in mind I am not sure if it'll fix what you're asking about....but yeah, that's the real url.

Tried all the solutions on the net but looks like I've got something uncommon happening so here's my solution:
1. Ran 'Windows Install Cleanup' utility (look for a file on the net called msicuu2.exe
2. 'Killed' anything with the word 'Live' in it (!)
3. Downloaded Windows Live Messenger 2009 from FileHippo (no reason other than an unfair suspicion that Microsoft are trying to drive me nuts, so lets see if another server has a version containing special magic dust that makes software work properly
4. Installed it and it worked. No idea why, but then mine is the Inspector Clouseau approach to computing.

Please read 2 posts further than the one you quoted, it contains the proper link...

Or download the proper and complete (online) installer from http://messenger.live.com/ to make sure you have all the needed components to install Messenger.
Because that is the most common reason why downloading and installing that contacts-ship-neutral.cab file works for so many people: they didn't used the proper installer from Microsoft to start with, but they downloaded the (offline/standalone) installer from somewhere else. And those installers didn't contain all the needed components. So moral: _always_ download from the official page: http://messenger.live.com/
