I can't login into hotmail automatically from windows live messenger V2009 - Printable Version

I can't login into hotmail automatically from windows live messenger V2009 by zillah on 02-17-2009 at 10:51 AM

Recently I upgraded MSN Messenger, whenever I click on the little mail icon "Open your e-mail inbox" at the top of the Windows Live Messenger version 2009 screen, it takes me to the hotmail page, but it keeps prompting me to type in my password (not username).

At first it was okay...but now its just getting annoying.

When it asks you for your password, type it in then make sure you tick "Remember me on this computer" and "Remember my password".

Are you saying I have to click the option : " Save my e-mail address and password " on hotmai page ?

As long as it is not a public computer then yes.

Well if you don't store your password how is the computer to remember it? That defeats the purpose of the security wouldn't you agree?

The reason I am saying that with previous version of MSN I am pretty sure that I had not click that option.

See the first option in the picture below , I guess there such an option which enable what I am looking for

But if you do not store the password in the cookie for the website how is the website going to remember it?

I think he means that in earlier versions, you could click the E-Mail button in Messenger's contact list and were redirected to Hotmail and you didn't have to enter your password again since Messenger passed the login on to the browser, even when you didn't have your password saved anywhere on that computer (browser or Messenger) as long as you were currently signed in to Messenger.

But zillah, does it still not work for you with that option on the screenshot unchecked? ^o)

Or maybe try checking it, quit and restart Messenger and then uncheck it again?

Yes exactly this is my case.

I tried that as well, but it did not work as well.

I think I may have found the solution. It seems that the new version of MSN tries to connect to Hotmail via your default browser. In previous versions, whatever your default browser was (e.g. Firefox), MSN would still connect to Hotmail via Explorer...

So I think the only way to assure a direct connectivity without downloading the aweful Live Mail is to select Explorer as your default browser, while still using Firefox (or whatever your default browser is..) whenever you want...

But its very annoying if you don't use IE as default browser. This problem will be corrected in the future?
For now I remain with the old version of MSN.
