WLM 8.5 and 2009 by limeares on 02-26-2009 at 10:56 PM

Hi again,

Is there a way to have installed Messenger 8.5 and 2009 in the same computer? I want MsgDiscovery and StuffPlug (and of course Plus!) in 8.5, but only Plus! in 2009. To explain better:

When I execute 8.5: Plus!, Discovery & StuffPlug

But when 2009: only Plus!

Please explain me how to do that (if possible) in the same computer.

Thanks.

Further details only post down

Once 8.5 is installed, go to the directory (C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger) and change the name of the Messenger folder to Messenger 8.5 (or something)

and then install WLM 2009 and it should install it in the default directory, leaving Messenger 8.5 still accessibly from its re-named folder

But when launching Messenger 2009, it says the application have to be closed due to incompatibilities with StuffPlug (and Discovery too). Is there a way, when lauching 2009, only starts Plus addon but no Discvery and StuffPlug?

Have a Virtual PC [PIC] with another version of Windows, then run both? :P

Extremely risky, as when he does this, loads and loads of Messenger 8.5's features break down. Moreover, StuffPlug 3.0 and MessengerDiscovery 1.x (don't remember the version number...) are designed to launch on Messenger start, for all they know is that Messenger is located in C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\, not C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger 8.5\, so unless there's some registry tweak or some Resource Hacking involved, then this attempt is probably going to fail.
