os: XP in a virtual machine nothing else installed
occurs when:someone starts a conversation with me
I use tabbed chats, it could be that causing it

Ever saw that before? Anybody else ever had this problem? Does this empty entry disappear when you close all your chats and re-appears when you re-open a chat?

install spy++, find the window, take a screenshot of all the information

it doesn't happen if I start the conversations, I'll set up another account and try and re create it

Have you tried turning tabbed chats off to see if it really is the problem?
