Scripts: "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts" RE: Importing old settings (forgot to export before new windows) by Flyview on 07-25-2009 at 06:16 AM
How will I add the registry information into windows 7? I had no skins or scripts lol.. RE: Importing old settings (forgot to export before new windows) by MeEtc on 07-25-2009 at 06:21 AM
Yes, as long as you can access individual fines from your backup you should be able to access the registry via the windows 7 registry editor. I'm writing these steps from Win XP, I'm hoping the registry editor hasn't changed much/at all. RE: Importing old settings (forgot to export before new windows) by andrey on 07-25-2009 at 06:22 AM
As I said, CookieRevised's reply to location/ source of MP!L settings has instructions on how to get the registry settings from the backup. RE: Importing old settings (forgot to export before new windows) by Flyview on 07-25-2009 at 06:45 AM Thanks guys. Sorry I jumped the gun with the questions RE: Importing old settings (forgot to export before new windows) by CookieRevised on 07-25-2009 at 08:36 AM
If you remember the settings somewhat from before, it is better to simply set them back like you would configure Plus! in the normal way (Plus! > Preferences & Options). RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by Flyview on 07-25-2009 at 08:04 PM
Alright guys, I tried this. However it seems the registry is set up a lil differently in Windows 7. The SOFTWARE folder is not directly under the HKEY_USERS and I think this is why it isn't working. Here's a snapshot of where I'm stuck. Also, there's patchou settings in other folders under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER ... do I have to grab anything from there? RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by ShawnZ on 07-25-2009 at 08:08 PM
quote: SOFTWARE has never been under HKEY_USERS! your old install was very screwed up RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by Flyview on 07-25-2009 at 08:10 PM Really eh? So should I put it where the Patchou folder sits now? Also what about my other question about the Patchou folder in the other Registry parts? RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by ShawnZ on 07-25-2009 at 08:22 PM
quote: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE (a.k.a HKEY_USERS\S-blahblahblah\SOFTWARE) is for per-user settings, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE is for system-wide settings also, i highly doubt that your problem is related to those settings. groups aren't even a msgplus feature it's probably just a server issue. What about CURRENT_USER? Is that automatically updated if I update USERS? RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by ShawnZ on 07-25-2009 at 09:04 PM
quote: HKEY_CURRENT_USER is just an alias to HKEY_USERS\[your user's SID]. you should always use CURRENT_USER so you know you're modifying the right user's settings RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by Flyview on 07-25-2009 at 09:07 PM
OH CRAP I just realized I was posting all this in the wrong thread!! lol RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by ShawnZ on 07-25-2009 at 09:15 PM
quote: oh, i see what you did now. when you loaded the software hive from your old installation, you had HKEY_USERS selected, so it loaded it as HKEY_USERS\SOFTWARE. its actual path on your old installation would have been HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE. RE: Upgraded to Windows 7, one of my groups is moved to "other contacts" by Flyview on 07-25-2009 at 09:37 PM Why would it have been LOCAL MACHINE if I had USERS selected? Anyway, I added it to the Sxxxxx folder and it worked! Now how do I get all my custom emoticons and live messenger settings? Damn this should have all been in my other thread...anyone a mod? quote: you loaded the SOFTWARE hive, but loaded it to the wrong place quote: again, use HKEY_CURRENT_USER, not the S-***** folder |
