Last time I tried Msg Plus Live on Windows 7, messenger lock didn't work due to the way win7 groups the chats in the taskbar.
Is Msg Plus more win7 friendly now?

Yes, the latest Messenger Plus! (4.82.368) is completely compatible with Windows 7 and the lock feature has been fixed. It can be downloaded from here.
