oops-unbelievable-pics.com Virus? by Long Con on 10-26-2009 at 05:39 PM

My mom's Messenger keeps sending out messages like this (DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!!):

quote:
omg :S Michael Jackson was murdered :o i cant belive that ... *puffff*
check out these few photos but they are abit blurry .. im confused....

http://Oops-[removed]-Pics.com/?search=michael

This happens automatically, whether she is there or not.  Virus scans find nothing wrong.  How can we stop this?

Moderator edit: edited the link

Tell her to change her password :)

Thanks, Mike, I let her know.  Any idea how this could have happened to her?  I guarantee she didn't give out her password to anybody...

In that case, I'm not sure :-/
The only way she could have gotten this is to enter her account details into that site (or one of the similar sites that appear every now and then).

Weird... she wouldn't do that either.  Could it be some program that got installed when she clicked the link that someone else sent her?  (Although she says that didn't happen either...)

I also have a problem, I wonder if you could help me out.  I receive several of these messages every day:

quote:
jannamuxisip@hotmail.com says (1:43 PM):
*Hey [my-username] check out http:// make9181.com

It's always a different name that sends it, vaguely feminine.  I have 'Block and Report Abuse"d it countless times now, and it still happens.

Or should I start a new thread for that?

She could have clicked one of this links herself before. Users rarely realize that they are being tricked into giving their user info to a 3rd party because the websites look genuine enough.

All it could take is for a website to look like Hotmail with a similar web address (hotnnail.com for example)
