A month ago I read a guide how to continue to use MSN 7.0 or 7.5 etc.
Since microsoft force us to use their new msn live messenger.
The only thing I had to do, was change a value in regedit, so that msn 7.0 reports back to microsoft it is the newest version....
Can anybody help me?

If you are using Windows XP or newer try setting the compatibility for msnmsgr.exe (located in the folder you installed MSN Messenger) to Windows 2000.

1) You can still use MSN Messenger 7.0.820.
You do not need to resort to any trickery.

However, the reason why MSN Messenger 7.5 and 8.0 are not supported anymore and you are forced to upgrade to a newer version, is that those versions contain big potenial security issues involving the execution of remote code. Many times, forced upgrades are done for your own safety!
Also note that tricking Messenger (by hacking it) to report it is another version can have unpredictable results like contacts getting lost, desyncronization, etc. It could even cause problems later on when you do upgrade and want to sign in with a newer version.
Also, it greatly increases possible errors in the protocol and although you wont notice it immediatly, it makes tracking and fixing errors extremely harder for Microsoft. So, actually you _are_ harming other users and the good workings of Messenger.
You should not do such trickery, eventhough it seems harmless at first sight.
Nevertheless, MSN Messenger 7.0.0820 is still supported and can still be used, as-is!
2) There is no registry key what-so-ever which would let any Messenger version to report back it is the newest version.
