RE: Alt+Tab Problem by EvilDragon on 12-04-2009 at 11:43 PM
I have another issue with Msg+ using tabbed chats.
Whenever I have multiple chats in tabs, and any tab is selected EXCEPT the last one, upon alt-tabbing to a different program, it CHANGES the tab that is currently active.
Happens with 14.0.8089.726 and Msg+ 4.83.0.372, Win XP SP2.
EDIT: please excuse me, I made an honest error. This is not happening when alt-tabbing, but when manually clicking on a different program in the taskbar!
So, let's say you have several MSN tabs open (3 or 4 for this test), and several programs open. Switch to the first or second tab of them all, and then click on any other program in taskbar. You will notice in split second that the tab will change to the last tab. This should not happen! It should remember which tab was open, no matter what! Very irritating to change the tab that I don't want to be changed!

Confirmed.
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (5.1.2600)
Windows Live Messenger 14.0.0726 (<= patchou, shouldn't this version string be 14.0.8089.0726?)
Messenger Plus! Live 4.83.0.372
Although it does not switch to the last tab; it switches to the previously active tab (the tab you've selected before you clicked on another tab).
EvilDragon, the reason why you see the last tab being selected again is because that was the last one you added to the tabbed chat.
This does not happen when you click on the Messenger taskbar button, only when you click on another programs' taskbar button.
PS: EvilDragon, it wont fix this bug, but I very strongly suggest you update to Service Pack 3 for XP.

Nah, XP2 working just fine here. I will switch to Win7 as soon as I get courage to reinstall 150 GIGABYTES of virtual instruments and samples.
I'm a musician, and this is a two-day chore, to get the system up and working flawlessly and as I want it...
So, since this is confirmed bug, there is a good chance that it will be fixed? If so, I would be very grateful indeed!

I think this must be an XP bug because I can't confirm on Win7

No, I just tested it in Vista Ultimate.
The bug also occurs there. Which makes me thing it will also occur in Win7.
1) Open Notepad and maximize it (I found that the bug appears to happen more consistantly in Vista when you have the app maximized. For XP it doesn't matter)
2) Sign in into Messenger
3) Open 4 convos
4) Click on the second tab to open the second convo
5) Click on the third tab to open the third convo
6) Click on the taskbar button of Notepad
--> The tabbed chat will switch to the second convo
Trying to reproduce this without closing the four convos and opening them again doesn't always work though. But the bug does always occur when you do it the first time.

It's not an issue of working fine or not (XP3 works just as fine), but more a matter of security and bug fixes. I think you don't want to loose your 150GB of music data because of a trojan (even if you have a virus scanner) or some bug in Windows XPSP2, no? Updating is free and everything will work just as good/better. And hundreds of bugs and security issues will be fixed... Just a tip... (SP3 is even mandatory for certain programs)

On Windows 7,- Tried without rebooting after enabling tabbed chats >> couldn't reproduce
- Tried after rebooting >> couldn't reproduce
The same steps reproduce the bug on XP Mode though.
