Is there any way to control the width of the "Contacts on Desktop"?
I want as many on screen as possible, but I only use initials, so I would like a short width.

Yes, if you "Unlock" them and move your mouse to the right hand edge, it will turn into a two way arrow, indicating that you can drag the box and re-size it
