Hey RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Menthix on 10-20-2010 at 10:23 PM
Every time you sign in to Messenger 2011 your name will change to your real name, so you'll have to chang it back in 2009 each time if you want your nickname there. If you sign in with 2009 and 2011 simultaneously, not sure what happens, it may be the same as crossing the streams. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chrissy on 10-20-2010 at 10:29 PM
Cheers, I thought it was like that . RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Menthix on 10-20-2010 at 10:33 PM
quote:Why bother? Like I said, if your contacts use 2011 they will still see your real name, even if you did always use 2009 yourself and have it set to your nickname. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chrissy on 10-20-2010 at 10:35 PM They don't though RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Menthix on 10-20-2010 at 10:46 PM Won't take long with Live Essentials 2011 being pushed out over Windows Update as an important update to people who have 2009 installed. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by FireCherryBlossom on 10-21-2010 at 05:58 PM they already have started to push it through windows update and i un-installed the new version and re-installed the old one, the 2011 one sucks RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chris4 on 10-21-2010 at 08:16 PM
quote:They pushed it through Windows Update to me today. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chrissy on 10-21-2010 at 08:45 PM Is it Automatically ticked? RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Menthix on 10-21-2010 at 09:28 PM No. Not yet anyway. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chrissy on 10-21-2010 at 09:33 PM Thank fuck RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Menthix on 10-21-2010 at 09:44 PM Actually, in some cases it is. Tried on a VM and it wasn't checked. Tried on my netbook and it was checked. Not sure how it works, both machines are Windows 7 with Live Messenger 2009 installed. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by FireCherryBlossom on 10-22-2010 at 08:05 AM it is automatically tick you cant un-tick and not install 2011 RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Tochjo on 10-22-2010 at 08:37 AM I'm guessing that's because you're not an administrator on your computer and automatic updates are enabled. If so, you should ask an administrator to hide the update. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by FireCherryBlossom on 10-22-2010 at 08:40 AM i am the administrator on my laptop no one else is allowed to use it RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chrissy on 10-22-2010 at 02:33 PM Forced upgrade?!?!? RE: RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Yugo on 10-22-2010 at 02:52 PM
quote: I'm not sure about it. Yesterday I was talking with a contact that installed WLM 2011 (received through Windows Update!) but I continued to see her with her usual display name coloured with Plus. Sometimes, when I use WLM 2011 in my VM or when I sign in on the Web Messenger (that behaves like 2011), when I go back to WLM 2009 I find my first name (not the full one) as display name, but this doesn't happen all the times. Many times I keep my home PC signed in with WLM 2009 and sign in on the web, or from WLM 2011 on my VM, in these cases I think that my contacts that use 2009 see me with my 2009 display name, as I have myself as a contact and see my display name. However, this is not very clear to be honest. Any possibility of an official explanation by Microsoft? RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Menthix on 10-22-2010 at 03:20 PM

It can be checked by default, but you can always uncheck it and hide the update so it doesn't bother you again. quote:Try support.live.com RE: RE: RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by gaara20 on 10-22-2010 at 06:40 PM
quote: hmm do you have any more info about this? Luckily i have windows updates disabled for years, so i wont install the shitty msn 2011. I still see alot of people with nicknames, and some of them have this new msn installed, so i dont understand also. Not being able to block people and talk offline is just incredible stupid. If they force me to change in some other way, i will use other clients like pidgin, heard is quite good. Crap... so it seems the names DO change in 2011. A friend of mine told me my name is the real one... except my last name is first.. wtf. Also, i see him still with the old nick, but he told me it also displays hes live profile.. so what i see in my msn is all lies. also why is my last name frist when in windows live profile is in correctly order? hello guys ! i m new in the forum !I don't speak good english so i m sorry about any wrong... RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by CookieRevised on 10-23-2010 at 12:36 AM
quote:tbh, that is a very bad decision. You should enable updates (at least enable it to inform you, not to auto-install). Updates are there for a reason though, and in most cases that reason is security! quote:You are _not_ forced to update to WLM 2011 (even not on Windows7)! -------------- ksipos: please read some of the many posts in regards to WLM 2011, Messenger Plus!, etc. It has been repeated multiple times already in various threads, but if you want to go back to WLM 2009, then uninstall WLM 2011, reboot, and download and install WLM 2009. You can download WLM 2009 from the official Messenger page: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials-xp Note that nothing will be able to bring back the Display Names. This is also version independant because that is how the current underlying protocol works now. So it doesn't matter what version you use: your contacts who use WLM 2011 (or any other client using the new protocols) will see your real name. In fact, people who don't even use Messenger at all and who go to your Windows Live Profile (http://profile.live.com/) will see your real name (this just to show that it actually doesn't have much to do with Messenger, but all with how the online Windows Live Services work now). And a fully WLM 2011 compatible version of Messenger Plus! will be released somewhere in December. RE: WLM2011 & WLM2009 by Chris4 on 10-23-2010 at 03:52 AM
quote:You haven't lost them - they are still there. When Messenger Plus! Live 5 is released, you will be able to use them again. Please be patient. quote:Offline messaging still works fine. quote:You can change your 'real name' associated with your Windows Live account by clicking on your name in Messenger to bring the drop-down menu, then choose Edit your name. quote:You can remove WLM 2011 at any time, you're not forced to use it. Your contacts who are using WLM 2011 will see your real name however, despite which version you use. You will not lose smileys, friends or anything by upgrading.
