Question about friends list - Printable Version

Hi
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this means. If I am in Messenger and I go to my profile, to the right my friends list shows up. Sometimes they are all faded out and other times only some of them are faded. Does anyone know? Are they online but away or something?

I can't reproduce that on the profile page (it may take some time to update) but if a contact is faded in Windows Live Messenger 2011 it means you're appearing offline to them.
