How do I fix this problem? It occurs sometimes when I'm playing and I have no reason what would cause it.

Crashes are very common with the source engine and the crash can be caused from tons of different things. Try lower settings.
But as matty said, contact steam support or go to the steam forums.

Happens to me every so often, usually when I shift+tab to talk to people or after I die and I tab through the views.
