After install MSG PLUS 5 the main window turn completly black and no way to made it work properly...

My configuration is:
WLM 2011
MSG PLUS 5
Windows 7

I've tried to remove and reinstall WLM but after the PLUS installation the problem respawn...

any ideas? -.-'

Possibly related to Blank screen after installing messenger plus 5.0? Does that look/sound the same?

Yes, the problem it's the same (first screenshoot, black window)

the workaround posted in the topic doesn't work...

Other syntoms affect the instability of wlm:
- sometimes (even often) it crash during loading
- when you close (Exit Messenger button) it crash an try a reopen and so every time you retry, until you kill directly the process from task manager

all the symptoms disappears after removal of Plus!

Did you try to start WLM with msgplus in safe mode with network support? it's similar to my problem, however i didn't have any crash even after starting session.

what workaround are you referring to? The "Disable all Messenger animations" one or the IZ3D/DirectX driver one?

Are your graphics drivers up to date?
You may also want to take a look at your DirectX settings.

Windows7 includes DirectX11, which is backwards compatible with DirectX10.1 and DirectX9.0c . However, Windows7 does not include the library updates of DirectX9 that were released after version 9.0c . Certain games running on DirectX9 maybe install (parts) of these libraries in order to play correctly and are therefore capable of creating bugs within the DirectX libraries.

Something you may want to try is downloading and installing the latest DirectX9 libraries. They do not appear in Windows Update, but you can find them here:

As you can see, the latest version is barely 3 months old.


Note I am only telling you this because Windows Live Messenger 2011 users on external sources have reported that installing DirectX9 fixed the problem for them.

No way, still Black window and (mostly) crashes!
it's absolutely a PLUS! problem... without PLUS! all works fine!
Someone help me! plz!

I have identified that even when the contact window is black you can reach the menus when pressing ALT.
There in the Plus! menu >  Preferences & options > Appearance > Contact List you have to turn off "Add Messenger Plus! buttons to the contact list and the contact cards" feature, apply the changes, restart Messenger and the window is back to normal. This is causing us the troubles.

The "Plus! -> Menu -> Preferences & Options -> Appearance -> Contact List -> "Add Messenger Plus! buttons to the contact list and the contact cards" (OFF)" thing worked for me too. Thanks a lot. ^ ^

I have no msgplus installed but have the same problem.. so I would say that msg plus is not to be blamed. 

I stumbled here while trying to look for a solution to the same problem

can you tell me what is your graphic card and PC information ?
