Cannot Start conversations - Printable Version

Whenever i try to start an im with someone it says

This has been happening for months and is very aggravating. I have tried everything from uninstalling windows live messenger, to uninstalling the entire suite, to deletign contacts, and uninstalling messenger plus to no avail. I even deleted registry keys :/
can anyone help with this problem?
