im also having some dificulty working my new plus, i just downloaded it and it says you can change the colour of ur contacts names, but the option isnt there

This option is available if you use MSN Messenger 7 in combination with Messenger Plus! 3.40. For more information, see Preview of improved Custom Names feature in Plus! 3.40.

Note that both of those programs are still beta releases, and you are not supposed to use MSN Messenger 7 unless you're an official MSN Messenger beta tester. Using beta software means that the programs might contain bugs, and using MSN Messenger 7 is also illegal if you're not an official beta tester. It is recommended to use the stable MSN Messenger 6.2 and wait until MSN Messenger 7 gets officially released (might be no sooner than February 2005).

where you type custom names normally (Plus! > preferences > contact list > custom names) type the contact's name and do the same as posted previously to change their nickname in colour.

Yes there is, but only contacts with Messenger Plus! installed will be able to see it. Adding the code for bold to your name works in a similar way as putting colour in it.

To make your name bold just open a conversation window, type /nick and a space and press ctrl-b. Then type your name and press enter. You can also add other formatting codes such as colours in a similar way; instead of ctrl-b you need to press ctrl-k and click a colour then.

Make sure you do not try to copy/paste the name to the Options dialog window, just type this in a conversation window and press Send. Also make sure that you type a space after /nick
