why, when im sure i have all the settings correct, does it always say "the server could not be contacted, please edit your settings and try again later", and always say i have 0 unread messages even though i have some?

Would help if you tell us what kinda account you are trying to check with the pop3 feature.

If the account you are trying to check does support pop3, make sure you enable pop3 in that account itself too (settings).
