Is it just me or does your screen name colour not work with windows live messenger???? help plz!

MsgPlus! Live is still in the Beta stage as isn't meant to be used for the public yet. I advise you uninstall it as it is extremely buggy, and out-dated.
Anyway to answer your question, the colour display names were probably not included in the build you may have

Plus! doesn't work with Windows Live Messenger, so naturally coloured screennames do not work either. So no, it's not you

Colour names will be fully supported by MP!L when it's released. It'll also be easier to use the colours, and to add them to your display name.
