When this new version came out with tabbed chats, I was using the latest version before that.

Before I downloaded the update with tabbed chats (3.60.144) I wanted to test check for updates. So I went to Plus> About > Check for updates and it said no updates.

So I downloaded the update manually and installed... but the feature to check for updates and install it for you I assume hasn't worked for a very long time.

When a new version is released, the automatic update isn't activated for a couple of reasons. One is server load. And two, if there is a major bug discovered after it was just released, it wouldn't affect millions of people. It's just a precautionary measure.

So it does work? Just not immediately after a new release?

I think I remember Patchou saying he enables it about a week after the initial release. But don't quote me on that.

As it has been said in this thread, the update-checking feature is not activated immediatly. Only after a week or so (but this can be longer) Patchou updates the info recieved by the update feature....

I confirm that... and once again, this precaution saved me for version 3.60 as two medium/major bugs were already found that I would not have liked to see propagated on millions of computers. Version 3.60.145 will be released tomorrow and with it, auto-update will be enabled.
