i have a problem with my computer: i press the button to start the machine... it turns on but it blocks until i press reset and then i hear the "piip" and the startscreen with "memory testing and blabla"... i have that problem since i installed an additional SDRAM device... any ideas?

i hope you understand my english, i wrote like i think i can explain my problem... in german is easier but nobody understands

When it does the memory check, does it report all the memory installed? If not, the new RAM is almost certainly damaged, but could also not be matched to the old RAM.

no the memory is ok... it finds everything... its only the problem that i press the button, it turns on, screen black, press reset, screen on machine starts...

In that case it's still a hardware problem, but not the memory. It's possible there's slight damage to a part of the motherboard, but don't quote me on it. You may want to get a professional to look at it for you.

Try putting the RAM in another port. And blowing any dust out of the slots etc....
And is your CPU in properly. Have you tried overclocking etc... If you have then:
Pop out the battery for 10mins then pop it back in and see if it works.
(This resets all of the settings)

hm... i'll have a look when i ahve time... and in fact i dont care about it... just asked whats the problem, its a cool bug so my brother cant use the computer because he doesnt know how to turn it on i'll have a new pc this one suxx too hard...

Finding it doesn't mean there are no problems with it.

In your BIOS you can set a flag so that the memory is checked bit by bit, turn that on. (note: even that check doesn't garantee that the memory is tip-top though).

Not nessecairly. The only way to know for sure if it is the SDRAM or not is to remove it again and boot up the PC. If the problem went away it IS the memory, if it still happens it IS something else.

Very bad advise. Pulling out the battery will clear all the CMOS settings and probably will produce far worse problems because of that. Never pull out the CMOS battery unless you need a physical way to reset all the CMOS and BIOS settings (eg: when you lost the password).

Posting in another language (too explain something better) is allowed as long as you provide an English translation, just as rav0 said.

You all are supposed to be regulars who should know how this forum works and what is spam or not.

Normally I would just report the posts without any comment, but lately it seems that the spam level on this forum is increasing again (might be the time of the year though )

Thats very true in my old PC I had 256mb stick of ram and it dies on me but the pc could still "see" it but it wouldnt proccess anything meaning it cant boot up.

It doesnt do any harm that I have found. Unless you have VERY specific settings that cannot be changed. If not this is ok.
(But I'm sure cookie right... waitig for him to corrrect me )
