Hi everyone,

I am planning to move to MPL but i got stuck with the following challenges that I need to export from MP3 to MPL:

1. all my contacts custom names
2. all my contacts information (where we use to put our notes about our contacts, as in MPL it's not anymore available as it's left to Windows Live Messenger). This is accessed through /info command


I really need your help to find a way to at least export those information because i had so many contacts and each one i already had notes about him/her where  i don't want to lose. 


This is very challenging especially when u delete someone and you re-add it again. In the old MP3, one I add him, I will get back his custom name as well as all the notes i wrote about him in the contact information.



unfortunately, export of MP3 won't work as import in MPL

Both things can not be imported to Messenger Plus! Live since Messenger Plus! Live doesn't have those features anymore because they are now part of Windows Live Messenger itself.

There are currently no methods or tools to import custom names to WLM's nickname feature and contact information to WLM's notes feature, except manually entering them.

Note that when you switch to WLM and Messenger Plus! Live, the custom names and contact information will not be lost unless you explicitly remove Messenger Plus! 3 with the option to also wipe out its registry settings. You could also make a backup/export of the registry settings so you still have tht information when some tool is made or when those things as added back to Plus! Live.

No... The import/Export feature only knows 1 format.


But you can export the Messenger Plus! registry settings directly from the registry editor into a readable format. Also note that for the contact information, the contact emails will be encrypted and not in a readable format.

Start > Run > Regedit > HKCU\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\your_email\Contacts > File > Export > Type: Textfiles (*.TXT)

i found that ... thank you (i will keep a record of it) for the future.


on the other hand, can't someone Patchou or one of the community developers write a small script to export such contact information to a *readable* text file.

is there any forum or a place to request such a script ?


am really so sad and disappointed not seeing such a valuable feature (contact info) been imported part of the upgrade process

There currently isn't a proper (and non-dodgy) way to import such info into Windows Live Messenger's nickname and notes features.
